Sea Mount — hand-painted fibreglass fish mounts, shipped Australia-wide

Sea Mount — hand-painted fibreglass fish mounts, Australia

Through the surface · −12 m

The fight is over.
The story isn’t.

Sculpted from existing molds and painted by hand — held exactly as it looked the moment it came up.

Sunlit Zone · −40 m

Every scar. Every shimmer.
Remembered.

Each mount is cast from molds of true trophy fish, then painted by hand — layer over layer — until the light moves across it like wet skin.

Twilight Zone · −200 m

Where the light gives up,
detail begins.

Lightweight fibreglass. Museum-quality permanence. No taxidermy, no decay — only the moment, held still.

Midnight Zone · −1,000 m

The ocean keeps its legends
in the dark.

Yours doesn’t have to stay down here.

01 · The Eye

Eyes that hold the fight

Each eye is set and painted by hand — iris rings, corneal depth, the wet gleam of a fish still in the water. It’s the first thing people look at, so it’s the last thing we let go.

02 · The Paint

Paint that moves like water

Layered airbrush and brushwork over sculpted skin texture — cobalt bars bleeding into teal, copper flanks fading to pearl. One side, painted to museum standard.

03 · The Sculpt

Cast from the real thing

Every plate, spine and scute comes from existing molds taken off true trophy fish. Lightweight fibreglass that hangs easily on a home wall — and outlasts the story you tell about it.

3D fibreglass mould

Full-bodied sculpture — not a flat panel, not taxidermy.

One side hand-painted

The standard finish, painted by hand.

Both sides optional

Available at additional cost — just ask.

Every price on this site is for a single painted side. Double-sided painting is quoted on enquiry.

All 114 moulds, A to Z.

Saltwater and freshwater, billfish to bream. Each one is a 3D fibreglass mount — fiberglass, if you spell it the American way — hand-painted on one side as standard, and shipped anywhere in Australia.

The paint

Painted to the species.
Or painted to your fish.

Every mount is hand-painted either way. The only question is whether you want the species in its true colours — or the exact fish you caught.

Standard · what most people order

Standard paint

Hand-painted in the species' true colours, to museum reference. No photos needed, nothing to decide — and it's the price you see on every listing.

Included in the listed price

Optional · your exact fish

Custom paint-match

Send us photos of the fish you caught and we'll paint the mould to match it — the exact bar pattern, the flush of the gill plate, the fade it had when it came over the side. We paint to your fish, not to a template.

Quoted on enquiry

Optional · a species we don't list

Painted as another species

One mould can be more than one fish. Species built to the same shape look identical once the paint is off, so we can hand-paint that mount as any of them — including fish that aren't listed on the site.

01 · Packed

Crated for the long haul

Bill, fins and tail braced and boxed for a cross-country truck. Longer billfish ship in a purpose-built crate.

02 · Freighted

Door to door, tracked

Tracked road freight to any Australian address. Remote and island addresses simply take longer — we say how much before you commit.

On the wall in minutes

Light enough for standard wall fixings — no reinforced mounting, no climate control, no upkeep. It will not oil through, split or fade.

Include your suburb, state and postcode in your enquiry and we will come back with a delivered price — the mount, the paint and the freight, in one number, before anything is paid.

Questions

The things people ask
before they order.

Do you ship fish mounts Australia-wide?
Yes. Every mount is packed and freighted anywhere in Australia — Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the ACT. Metro, regional and remote addresses are all covered, and freight is quoted with your order once we know the species, the size and the delivery postcode.
Do I have to send you my fish?
No. This is not taxidermy. Every mount is cast from an existing mould taken off a true trophy specimen, so your fish can go back in the water or in the esky. All we need is the species, the length in millimetres, and photos if you want the paint matched to your exact fish.
What is the difference between a fibreglass mount and skin-mount taxidermy?
A skin mount uses the animal itself, so it can shrink, split, oil through the paint and fade over the years. A fibreglass replica is a sculpted, hand-painted shell — lightweight, dimensionally stable, and it does not decay. It hangs on standard wall fixings and looks the same in twenty years as it does on delivery.
How much does a fibreglass fish mount cost in Australia?
Listed prices run from about A$85 for a baitfish mount up to A$5,930 for the largest billfish, and every price on the site is for a mount hand-painted on one side. Painting both sides is available at additional cost and is quoted on enquiry, as is custom paint-matching to your own catch. See the full collection and pricing.
Is the mount painted on one side or both?
One side is hand-painted as standard, and every price listed on the site is for a single painted side. That is the finish most mounts are hung with, since the mount sits against a wall. Painting both sides is available at additional cost and is quoted on enquiry.
Can you paint the mount to match the exact fish I caught?
Yes — send photos of your catch and we paint the mould to that fish: the bar pattern it carried, the flush in the gill plate, the fade it had when it came over the side. Custom paint-matching is quoted on enquiry. Without photos, the mount is painted in the species' true reference colours as standard. More on custom painting.
Can a mount be painted as a different species?
Yes — and more often than people expect. Fish in the same family are built to the same shape, so once the colour is off, the bare fibreglass body of one is the body of the other: a lot of the demersal and reef species are impossible to tell apart in the unpainted glass. A mould therefore does not have to stay the fish it is listed as. Where the body form matches, we hand-paint it in a completely different species' colours — different markings, different pattern, a different fish on the wall — so plenty of Australian species that are not listed for sale can still be made. Tell us the fish you are after and the length, and we will tell you which mould it comes off. Quoted on enquiry. More on custom painting.
Can you make a mould for a species that is not in the collection?
We work from existing moulds only — we do not make new moulds. The collection covers 114 mounts across billfish, sharks and rays, tuna and pelagics, reef and bottom fish, inshore, freshwater and baitfish. If you cannot find your species, ask: there is often a very close body form in the range, and it can be painted as the fish you want. Browse every species A–Z.
Does a fibreglass mount need any upkeep?
No. The finish is UV-stable, so it will not oil through, split or fade the way a skin mount can, and it needs no climate control and no conditioning. Keep it out of direct weather and dust it the way you would anything else on the wall.
How heavy is it, and what do I need to hang it?
Because it is fibreglass rather than a skin mount, it is light enough for standard wall fixings — no reinforced mounting and no backing board. Hangers are fitted before it ships, so hanging it is a matter of finding your fixing points and lifting it into place.
How long does a fish mount take to make and deliver?
Each mount is painted by hand to order, so lead time depends on the species, the size and whether you have asked for a custom paint-match. We confirm the current build window and the freight time to your postcode in writing when we quote, before anything is paid.
How is the mount packed for freight?
Fibreglass is light, but the bill, the fins and the tail are the fragile parts, so each mount is braced and boxed to survive a cross-country truck rather than a short courier run. Longer billfish ship in a purpose-built crate. Freight is door to door and tracked, and remote and island addresses are no problem — they simply take longer, and we tell you how much longer before you commit.
Can I see photos of my mount before it ships?
Yes. Mounts are photographed before delivery, so you see the real mount and the real paint — not a catalogue render — before it goes on the truck. See the gallery.
How do I order, and when do I pay?
Start with an enquiry: the species, the length in millimetres, your suburb, state and postcode, and photos if you want a custom paint-match. We come back with a delivered price — the mount, the paint and the freight, in one number — before anything is paid.
